Being from the apparel industry, working in a sophisticated office, moving cursors on design software never pushed me to question these basics until one day I decided to find my own path. I desired to surpass the borders of my professional qualifications and break the routine.
We can’t dismiss the role of fashion, clothes, art, and music. The world would be utterly boring if we didn’t experiment with our looks, styles, and express our personality through our attire. However, like any other industry, the fashion industry has its own hazards. How can we minimize the negative impact and convert it into a collaboration with nature? Thus, the idea of WildMoss Clothing, which strikes a balance between both commercial and eco-friendly clothing aspects, was conceived.
With a team of three members, we started with a small collection in 2020. We envisioned original artistic print artworks on fuss-free, simple, easy-to-carry everyday fits. From Bangalore, we began working with a local hand block printing unit in Sanganer, Jaipur. Our prints were unique, so we faced some resistance from the block printer initially. But as we transitioned from block carving to our very first sampling, we were certain that this was going to make a statement in the circle of art lovers.
Besides the product, we never forgot our strong commitment towards sustainable fashion. We paid attention to our process and strengthened our digital capacities to sample the prints. The COVID-19 pandemic had opened up many new possibilities and realities. With minimal sampling wastage, we produced our collection. Stitched in limited quantities, we were ready to launch with 100% no-plastic packaging.
We took the challenge to recycle each and every scrap of recycled fabric wastage leftover from production. We used the bigger pieces to make packaging bags, and smaller pieces added charm to decorative cloth strings. The next level was product labeling, branding, and packaging. The smallest of pieces were filtered to convert into hangtags, along with hand-stamped wash care instructions. Fashion accessories from waste cloth also became a project for our team.
Our customers have found us. We have sustained with our strong ethics and commitment towards fair trade fashion. We make sure that the workers are paid fairly and on time. Our inventory is tailored in limited quantities, and all products are made from 100% cotton fabric. This makes our products extremely breathable and comfortable. We don’t associate ourselves with any trend or season. Each product is made with dignity, and we make sure that it doesn’t lose its value. The trims, stitching threads, coconut buttons, cotton printed labels, and scrap recycled packaging are all consciously chosen. All these factors make our product 100% biodegradable.
Whatever you purchase, first know that it's made with love, not someone’s extortion. Wear it with confidence. Be proud that you made a difference by befriending nature. Wear and live into it. Feel the sentiments. Take care of it. If it's torn, mend it. If you can’t, upcycle it. It’s worth telling a story.
Sustainability is a very long and challenging journey, but it starts with small steps. We have taken ours. Have you? Embrace sustainable fashion and eco-friendly clothing with WildMoss Clothing, and join us in making a positive impact on the environment. By supporting fair trade fashion and choosing recycled fabric, you’re not just making a purchase; you’re contributing to a better world.
